All things have the colour of daybreak

“All things have the colour of daybreak” the last line from Paul Eluard’s poem ‘The Phoenix’, written in 1951. An alchemical poem.. if you haven’t read it we encourage you to hunt it out (our copy is in an old book printed in 1988). It’s about the inevitable and the inevitability of something that can be hoped for, there is a question left unanswered about whether that includes us in a form we know or not. We’re aware of Spring coming, we’re aware of a change in the air, we’re aware that we are also part of that and as Artists that means somehow translating our senses.

There is perhaps an inevitability in the completion of our piece “The Moorhen’s Spring”, the subject of our piece looking towards an oval form that includes all the colours of daybreak speaks of this time of year.

Paul Eluard died in 1952 , he remains one of France’s most popular and best loved poets.
